Having low energy is a common setback everyone may experience at some point in their lives. This means, your chances of having a productive day are probably low. Distractions around you could be one of the main reasons you are low on energy.

This feeling can leave you stressed and influence how you relate to others. However, there are strategies you can develop to boost your energy and have a productive day.

Start Your Day Right

How you spend the early hours of your morning can affect the rest of the day, either positively or negatively. To have a productive day, it’s ideal to wake up early and consistently dedicate the first hours to planning your day, meditating, reading a chapter of a book, and exercising before the noisy world dawns.   

In the 5 AM Club by Robin Sharma,  he emphasizes early morning routines ignite a positive shift in your daily habits. Regardless of where you are in life, the principles shared are relevant and actionable to help you start your day right.

It’s also important to avoid touching your phone for the first two hours when you wake up to help you organize your thoughts.  In the morning, you can set the mood for the day with a good routine.

Waking up early helps you to plan effectively, have time for yourself, appreciate the little things, and write a journal.

Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Another strategy for having a productive day is having a healthy breakfast. Starting your day right includes eating a hearty, balanced breakfast to help build your energy for the rest of the day.

As you may already know, a healthy breakfast constitutes whole grains such as cereals, oats, and wheat bread. A balanced breakfast should include proteins such as eggs, seeds, and nuts.

You should also include fruits, vegetables, and dairy products, such as milk. Almond or coconut milk is available if you’re vegetarian.

A healthy breakfast contributes to physical activity and helps you set a good mood for the rest of the day.

Make a to-do list of important tasks you have for the day and organize them vertically, from most important to least important. As you complete the first task, mark or tick to show completion. Completing an important task boosts your energy level.

Remember, urgency is not the same as importance. Important tasks contribute to growth, positive energy, and success.

On the other hand, urgent tasks stress you and leave you unproductive at the end of the day. For example, checking and responding to irrelevant emails, responding to calls, or attending impromptu meetings.

Prioritizing tasks ensures you focus on important things and do them well. Knowing you’ve done something well gives you the motivation to keep going.

Take Breaks

As you consistently wake up early and focus on the most important things daily, take time to rest through short breaks. Taking breaks of 10-30 minutes in the afternoon helps you recharge and avoid burnout. 

You can

  • walk away from your desk
  • take a light nap
  • listen to soothing music while you meditate

Moreover, if reading or spending time alone for a few minutes works for you, do it.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking water is the best way to stay hydrated throughout the day. It’s also ideal to drink a cup of lukewarm water first thing in the morning. A consistent routine of drinking water early in the morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. It also helps you to be international in executing healthy habits when it comes to eating.

Research shows your metabolism increases by 25% when you drink water on an empty stomach. A solid metabolism energizes your body and increases your red blood cells. 

Also, consume fruits and vegetables as snacks to maintain your energy level.

Dedicating a few hours a week to exercise consistently can boost your energy level and help you have a productive day. Simple aerobic exercises like brisk walking help you live a healthy life, strengthen your bones, and boost your metabolism.

Brisk walking can also help you lose body fat and prevent heart diseases such as high blood pressure and stroke. You can adopt other forms of exercise, such as:

  • Swimming
  • Jogging
  • Cycling

Affirm Your Worthiness

Self-affirmations are statements you repeat to yourself daily to help you focus on the positives and build self-esteem. In other words, you affirm your worthiness through words. Some self-affirmations to say to help you have a productive day include:

  • I’m beautiful’
  • ‘I can do it! ‘
  • I’m a success’
  • ‘I’m the light of the world’
