When it comes to the National Basketball Association (NBA), most of the focus goes to the players, understandably so as you tune in to watch the game. However, they aren’t the only important people in the game. Those who keep the facilities clean contribute to the success of the sport. That said, they don’t earn as much as the players so in this article, we’ll establish the NBA Floor cleaner’s salary.

The salary of a floor cleaner in the league depends on the employer an individual has and their experience level. With that in mind, the pay can range from $39,000 to $95,000 annually, with the former being a cleaner with less than two years of experience and the latter with more than five years of experience.

Additionally, cleaners’ pay can increase as a team progresses into the championships. They also get tips from players and bonuses for their performance.

What Do Floor Cleaners Do?

It might not seem like the most prestigious job but it’s certainly an important one. NBA floor cleaners are responsible for keeping the surface dry.

This entails cleaning sweat and removing debris at certain moments of the game like during a break and after the game. They use specialized gear to ensure the surface remains smooth.

This is important as a wet floor can cause injuries. The NBA is intense with a lot of contact between players so having people to clean up helps. Additionally, they also load equipment, gather the loose balls and set up the bench at halftime.

The cleaner uses “sweat mops” to run to the balls after free throws. And they get on their hands and knees with oversized, absorbent bath towels whenever a player falls.

NBA Players Acknowledge Floor Cleaners

NBA realize how vital they are. Miami Heat player Duncan Robinson described them as the unsung heroes of the game because they eliminate the chances of injuries.

His teammate Jae Crowder explains that he shows his appreciation every time after the game to let them know how thankful he is.

On his part, Danny Green described the cleaners as very hardworking and pointed out that in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, cleanliness was mandatory.

How Do You Get This Position?

Getting an NBA floor cleaning job is neither easy nor hard. Some teams post the open positions on their website and you have to send your application for consideration. Every team will apply its recruitment procedure so ensure you follow the procedure stipulated to increase your chances.

NBA floor cleaners do a lot to keep the players safe. Without them, there would be a long list of injuries or the game would be unplayable. It’s not a prestigious job and doesn’t fetch as much money as the players but its impact is there for everyone to see.
