This team belongs to the University of Alabama and made its first National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) appearance in 1975. They’ve been Southern Conference champions nine times winning their first title in 1930 and their latest in 2023. Some of the NBA players who played for the team include Charles Bediako, JD Davison and Keon Ellis among others.

Illinois Fighting Illini

Illinois Fighting Illini represents the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in the (NCAA) competitions. The team made its first NCAA tournament appearance in 1942 but was in operation long before that. 

Its first Big Ten title came in 1915. They’ve also been dominant in other competitions winning 18 NCAA Championships and appearing in five NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Fours.

North Carolina Tar Heels

The University of North Carolina is represented in the NCAA Division I basketball by the North Carolina Tar Heels. 

Like the other best college basketball teams on the list, the team has achieved several milestones, like winning the conference tournament, being the conference regular season champions and being NCAA tournament champions. 

Alumni of the North Carolina Tar Heels in the NBA include Harrison Barnes, Danny Green, Reggie Bullock and Coby White among others.

The University of South Carolina’s basketball team, the USC Trojans, is one of the most popular and best college basketball teams in the NCAA Division I men’s basketball. Its first NCAA tournament appearance was in 1940 and the last was in 2023.

The team competes in the Pac-12 Conference and has won the title once, in 2009. One of the most high-profile college players in the team is Bronny James, the son of NBA star LeBron James. Other notable NBA stars in the team include Chiemeze Metu, Isaiah Mobley and Evan Mobley.

Texas Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns from the University of Texas, Austin, play in the Big 12 Conference which they’ve won only twice – 2021 & 2023. They compete against other major universities like Oklahoma, West Virginia and Texas Christian University. 

As part of the South West Conference, the team won two titles in 1994 and 1995. Its first NCAA tournament appearance came in 1939 and have been in it for the most part to date. Some of the NBA stars who’ve played for the team include Kevin Durant, Myles Turner and Damian James.
