The NBA MVP list includes the best players in a regular season. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) award is voted for by broadcasters and sportswriters who form a panel of 100 voters within the United States and Canada. 

The voting happens after the regular season ends and the player with the most points wins. Over the years, numerous players have won the award. In this post, we’ll list the NBA MVPs by year.

2022/23: Joel Embiid

Starting our NBA MVP list is Joel Embiid who won the award in 2022/23/ The Cameroonian player represents the Philadelphia 76ers, the only team he’s played for in the league. 

His performances were worth the award as he was the first player since the 1973/74 season to notch 50 points, 5 assists and blocks and 10 boards. 

It’s his first MVP award, the first for a Cameroonian NBA player and the second for an African player in the league.

2021/22: Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis has two NBA MVP awards, having gained recognition in 2018/19 and 2019/20. The Milwaukee Bucks power forward is one of the team’s most important players. 

He led them to a 60-22 record, which is the team’s best, averaging 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. 

The following year, he bettered his performance, averaging 29.5 points, 13.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game, and helped the team set an NBA best record.

2017/18: James Harden

Harden is a one-time MVP award winner after winning it in the 2017/18 season. He was the third Houston Rockets player to win it after multiple seasons of finishing second. In this season, the shooting guard led the lead in scoring and had the third-highest assist. He joined the company of elite players who’ve averaged 30 points in a single season.

2015/16 & 2014/15: Steph Curry

Arguably the best three-point shooter in the history of the NBA, Steph Curry has been influential in the Golden State Warriors success. Along the way, he’s scooped the NBA MVP awards twice. His first came when the team won its first championship since 1975 and won his second through a unanimous vote, the first player to receive it.

2013/14: Kevin Durant

Durant was one of the best players in the league and is a one-time recipient of the award. He played for several teams and is currently signed by the Phoenix Suns. Durant has won several other awards including two NBA Championship rings and has featured in the All-Star team several times.

It’s no surprise that LeBron James features in our NBA MVP list. He’s broken and written many records throughout his career. He’s the all-time leading scorer in the league and has been influential in his team’s victories. James led the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat to win the championship.

The NBA MVP list is long and many more players continue to prove themselves worthy of the award. The players on our list have won numerous trophies and produced incomparable performances.
