Sugary drinks can also contribute to holiday weight gain. Substitute sugary drinks like soda, alcoholic beverages or eggnog, with drinking water and other non-caloric beverages. Not only will this help you stay hydrated, but it will also reduce your overall calorie intake.

We also tend to drink excessively around Christmas. Give your liver a break and eliminate alcohol from your diet as part of your post-Christmas detox. Alcohol may cause you to make poor food decisions that can result in weight gain. Additionally, cut down on cocktails, including syrups that are high in sugar and calories.

To help your body rid itself of toxic substances and kick-start your metabolism, add some freshly squeezed lemon juice to your first glass of warm water in the morning. In addition to boosting metabolism, lemon juice adds some flavor to your drink and helps relax your throat.
