The Guinness World Book of Records keeps a collection of the best human achievements possible. The record book has been in existence since 1955 and numerous people have their names on it for showing incredible feats from sports, arts, music, the culinary arts and any industry imaginable. This article presents the black people who’ve made it into the Guinness World Book of Records.

Hilda Baci
In 2023, Nigerian chef Hilda Baci cooked for 93 hours and gained her place in the Guinness World Book of Records. She did the cook-a-thon over four days. She prepared 100 pots of food that could serve 35 people.
Baci took a 5-minute break every hour and cooked two meals at a time. The Nigerian said she did this to test her limits and inspire Africans.

Aevin Dugas
Aevin Dugas holds three Guinness World Book of Records for having the largest afro in the world. In 2010, her afro measured 4 ft 4 in (132 cm). In 2021, Dugas broke her record, wearing an afro of 5ft 2in (157cm) and her latest record is 5ft 5in (165cm).
Speaking to the media, she says that the public has been intrigued by her hair but some people touch it without permission. As for her hair care routine, Dugas does frequent trimmings and styling and does it by herself.

Wiz Kid
One of the biggest Nigerian singers Wizkid is the first person to have a billion streams on Spotify. He achieved this feat with his song, One Dance, with Canadian musician Drake.
Wizkid has established a great career and has received nominations for many international awards including the Grammys.
Simone Biles
In 2019, Simone Biles wrote her name into the Guinness World Book of Records after successfully performing a double salto backward tucks with a 2/1 twist. Biles is the first person in history to perform this routine which is named after her, the Biles.

She also did a double salto backward tuck with 3/1 twist during a floor routine and it was named the Biles II. Alongside that, the gymnast holds the most number of World Artistic Gymnastics Championships medals. Overall, she’s the most decorated gymnast, male or female, in the world.
Serena Williams
The former tennis player is the oldest female tennis grand slam singles winner, winning the Australian Open in 2017 aged 36. Williams has won 23 grand slams and falls short of Margaret Court with 24. The American had an incredible career and her achievements will take a long to be replicated.

Aretha Franklin
Known as the Queen of Rock and Roll, Aretha Franklin was the first female artist in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Aretha produced hits like:
- “I Knew You Were Waiting”.
- “A Rose is Still a Rose”.
- “Until You Come Back to Me”
She made over 45 million global sales and collected numerous awards, including the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Usain Bolt
Former Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt grabbed several records that saw him enter the Guinness World Book of Records. He’s still the 100m world record holder with a speed of 9.58 seconds.
No one has come close to breaking this although scientists contend that his record will fall someday. Bolt also earned his place by getting the most consecutive medals in the 100m and the 200m, achieving this in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
Tuedon “Tee” Omatsola Morgan
Nigerian Tuedon’s journey to the Guinness World Record books began as a weight loss journey. She ended up running across all the continents, recording the fastest time on each continent from Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada, culminating in France.
Teudon has built her endurance levels over time, stating that she was tired of her huge weight after having her fourth child. The marathoner has done half marathons and full marathons and is certified as a Guinness World Book of Records holder.

Pele
Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, he was arguably the best footballer that ever lived. The Brazilian held the record for the most number of World Cup wins by an individual player, 3. He won his first in 1958, 1962 and 1970. He scored a total of 12 goals in the World Cup and was a living soccer legend.
Black people have made noteworthy contributions to the world so it’s not surprising to see them in the Guinness World Book of Records. Who’s achievements would you add to the list?
