Walter Meyers, played by Danny Glover, invited his children over for the holidays. He lost his wife and is hoping this will provide some respite. However, each one arrives with their struggles and interferes with family time. Will Meyers get his Christmas wish of having his kids get along? 

Christmas in Compton

Derrick is desperate to show his father (Big Earl) that he’s a responsible man. After Earl suffers a heart attack, he entrusts his Christmas tree lot and a house to him, hoping he’ll learn how to be responsible. 

Derrick suffers misfortunes as the owner and makes drastic decisions that lead to the sale of the Christmas tree lot. He eventually manages to raise some money but Earl decides to use that to get another tree.

This Christmas

Directed by Preston A. Whitmore II, this is one of the best African American Christmas movies you should tune in to. The Whitefields spend Christmas together but the eldest son hasn’t joined them in four years. 

This time, he’s present but that’s not enough to keep any confrontations at bay. Everyone’s issues crop up, the family bond is tested and they help each other realize the meaning of family.

Last Holiday

Last Holiday is one of the African American Christmas movies you should watch. It centers around Queen Latifah (Georgia Bryd )and LL Cool J (Sean Williams). Georgia is battling a terminal illness and decides to use her remaining funds for a trip to Europe. 

She was praised for her role in the film, earning a nomination to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

The Perfect Holiday

Another signature African American Christmas movie you should pay attention to is this one. Gabrielle Union plays the lead character in this film. She has three daughters whose Christmas wish is for her to get a husband. 

They express this wish to Santa when they meet him at the store. It’s a wonderful gift to hold on to for your mum, so if you want to find out whether Gabrielle Union gets one, tune in.

The Preacher’s Wife 

This African American Christmas movie is a remake of the 1947 film The Bishop’s Wife. Denzel Washington (Dudley) is the lead actor. He’s an angel and is supposed to help bring back Reverend Henry Biggs’s church and marriage. 

However, Denzel falls in love with Henry Biggs’ wife. For those questioning how an angel can fall in love, well, Dudley died but has been sent on a mission. It’s a film that provides enough titillation that will keep you watching until the very end.

Parents struggle to allow their kids to venture into the world alone. This is the case with Holly Robinson Peete, who plays Lena. Her son is autistic.
