Go to Church on Christmas Eve
Christmas is a Christian celebration marking the birth of Jesus Christ. It’s an event that cuts across all ethnic groups, including African Americans. Why not attend a church service in your locality? Kids would love wearing their Sunday best outfits and sitting comfortably in a pew.
Churches don’t have the same order of service due to different doctrines. But you could find common Christmas carols like:
- O Come All Ye Faithful
- Silent Nights
- Joy to the World
- O Holy Night

Sing Christmas Carols
You don’t have a melodious voice for carols? Worry not! Singing carols isn’t about who has the best voice, it’s about letting the Christmas spirit embody you. So, sing your heart out with your family at home, or in the streets, if your area allows.
Open Some Gifts on Christmas Eve
Kids can be impatient and insist on wanting to open their gifts. But adults can also have anxiety. A good way of handling them is to open round one of the gifts on Christmas eve. Watch as the faces of your loved ones fill with anticipation and excitement as they open. Get satisfaction from the happy look on their faces.

If that looks far fetched, share with your neighbors who have no family. Invite them to dinner or bake something and take over to their houses.
And if you have kids with toys they have outgrown, ask them to give out, but ensure they’re still in good condition. Pack them in Christmas themed bags and take them to children who don’t get such toys. Or you check charity shops near you and deliver as soon as you can.
Count Your Blessings
You’ve had a busy year working lots of hours. Not everything was perfect, but again not everything was bad. Take out a pen and paper and list all you have achieved, grateful for.
You’ll be amazed by the good things in your life. A year without illness, a new job, the birth of a baby, moving to a bigger house etc are examples of things you can count as blessings during Christmas Eve.
Other ways to spruce up your Christmas Eve include:
- Baking a Cake for Jesus
