In 2017, Victor Osimhen joined German side VFL Wolfsburg on a three-year contract. He made his Bundesliga debut in May 2017 as a substitute and went on and make his full debut in 2018. In the same year, he was loaned to Charleroi before he returned to Wolfsburg.

In 2019, Osimhen left the Bundesliga for French side Lille. He scored a brace on his debut, won a league One Player of the Month Award, and completed the season as Lille’s top goal-scorer with 13 goals. Osimhen won the Prix Marc-Vivien Foe Award for his season. The following season, his performance earned him Lille’s Player of the Season.

After a good time in France, the Nigerian forward moved to Italy. He reportedly signed a five-year contract with Napoli in a deal said to be around $53 million. He’s a significant member of the team.

In his first season, Osimhem played 24 matches and scored 10 goals. In his second season, he was involved in 27, and in his third, 32, which shows his growing influence on the side.

Osimhen decided to stay with Napoli despite interest from various European clubs.

Controversial TikTok Post

After Osimhen missed a penalty kick during his side’s nil-nil draw against Bologna, the club’s TikTok account posted a video making fun of him and compared him to a coconut.

This sparked outrage, and his agent threatened legal action against the club. Although Osimhen has played since the incident, his future at the club hangs in the balance.

The forward played for Nigeria at junior levels, in the U17 and U23, before he made his senior debut in 2017.

Osimhen was part of the U17 team that played at the 2015 FIFA World Cup in Chile. He finished the tournament as a top scorer with 10 goals and also won the CAF Youth Player of the Year award.

As a senior player, Osimhen missed the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. In 2019, he was part of the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) team. In 2021, the forward missed out on the tournament due to COVID-19. For the 2023 AFCON, he finished as the top scorer with 10 goals.

Victor Osimhen’s statistics show why he’s one of the best young players in the world right now. If he continues putting in good performances, Osimhen will undoubtedly become one of the best African players.
