Al Ahly

Egyptian club Al Ahly is the most supported football club in Africa. It has a social media following of over 30 million across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The fans also come out in large numbers whenever the team plays domestic or continental matches.

The club used to have a support base referred to as the Ultras Ahlawy but was banned after several clashes with authorities. The club’s president described them as terrorists.  

Al Ahly uses the Cairo International Stadium as its home ground. It’s one of the most successful clubs in Egypt, having won 43 league titles and 24 titles in Africa.

Kaizer Chiefs

The South African club has over 7 million fans, making it one of the most supported African football clubs. It’s the most successful club in South Africa, having won 12 Premier Soccer League titles, the Africa Cup Winner’s Cup and other domestic trophies. Kaizer plays its home matches at the FNB Stadium with over 94,000 fans.

Raja Club Athletic

Raja Casablanca is the most popular football club in Morocco. It boasts over 10 million fans across its social media platforms. Its passionate and notorious support group is known as the Ultra Green Boys.

They provide an electric atmosphere during matches, having won the club’s colors and chanting its slogans. 

The club was formed in 1949 to represent the working class in the country’s capital, Morocco. As such, one of the biggest matches on the calendar is the Casablanca derby against Wydad Casablanca. 

The team plays its matches at the Mohammed V Stadium, which holds 45,000 fans. Domestically, Raja Casablanca won 12 league titles and 8 continental titles.

Simba SC

Simba SC is the biggest and most supported club in Tanzania and East Africa. It has over 8.2 million fans. It’s also the most successful club in the country, with 22 Premier League titles. 

However, they’ve been unable to replicate the same dominance at the continental level. They’re yet to win any major trophies but came close in 1993 to winning the CAF Cup. The club plays its home games at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.   

Zamalek SC

Zamalek has over 14 million fans across its social media channels. Like Al Ahly, it has a fierce support group referred to as the Ultras White Knights. They always express their displeasure and happiness whenever their team wins. 

The Ultras White Knights have also been disruptive before and are known for having fireworks, smoking guns and long banners.

Zamalek plays its home games at the Cairo International Stadium. They’ve won 14 Egyptian Premier League titles and 11 continental trophies.
