American football is one of the most dangerous sports you can play. Even though players wear protective gear, shoulder, spine, concussion, and neck injuries are common. Some players have suffered career-ending injuries and some have been left paralyzed.

Ryan Shazier was left partly paralyzed after a routine tackle in an NFL game. Doctors were able to stabilize his spinal cord but he relearned how to walk again.

Other players who’ve experienced a similar outcome include Dennis Bryd, Reggie Brown and Kevin Everett. Chuck Hughes is the only football player who’s died on the field, while Korey Stringer passed on after a heatstroke.

Damar Hamlin’s collapse and Tua Tagovailoa and Daewood Davis’s injuries are continuous reminders of how dangerous America’s most watched sport is.

Facing a charged bull is dangerous enough and is a challenge you wouldn’t want to take. Getting on one in the name of sports puts you in a risky situation. The idea of bull riding is to stay on its back for as long as possible as it throws you up and down.

Even though these riders are trained, they can’t tame a wild bull, so they always look for the exit when they hit the ground. A bull weighs about 2,000 pounds.

Data shows that 100% of bull riders get injuries, 36% of those injuries are severe, and some of them endure long-term effects. If you’re thinking about bull riding, think about it carefully.

If you want to surmount a local mountain, that might not be as dangerous as what we’re looking at here. We’re referring to those who try to conquer the peaks of the Himalayas. As adventurous as that sounds, it comes with a lot of risks.

The biggest one is losing control of your environment. The weather change can be drastic; you might encounter falling objects like rocks and avalanches, and the thinning atmosphere as you go to higher altitudes might cause hypoxia. All these make mountaineering one of the most dangerous sports in the world.

Street Luging

The idea of street luging was borrowed from skateboarding. Those who want to enjoy faster speeds realized they could get the thrill by lying on the board. The speeds generated have been equated to sledding at 90 miles per hour.

As a result, riders must wear protective equipment – helmets and leather gear – to reduce the impact of injuries. These wheeled boards don’t have breaks, so if a rider wants to stop, they have to drag their foot on the ground or hit themselves onto something.

Deaths are rare but injuries do happen. Crashes led to more than 64% of the injuries, which is why it’s one of the most dangerous sports.

When you see people put their lives on the line to pursue these sports, you respect them and wear your heart on your sleeve. Any wrong move can have life-changing consequences or cause death. Some have done these sports successfully but suffer from the after-effects later. Before taking in any sport, be aware of its threat levels. This isn’t a call for you to never do sports. It’s a call for awareness.
