Joshua Buatsi’s Early Life & Career

Joshua Buatsi was born in Accra, Ghana before his family moved to the United Kingdom. He grew up in a violent neighborhood but he chose a different path. He began going to the gym, training and competing which he says grounded him.

His career started at the South Norwood and Victory Club. He first signed with Matchroom Boxing owned by the family of one of the most iconic boxing coaches, Eddie Hearn. He competed in promotions fight camp against Ricards Bolotniks and Craig Richards, and won both matches.

While at the lower level, he qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics after beating Oleksandr Khyzhniak and Peter Müllenberg. He reached the quarter-final round at the Olympics.

Beyond Boxing

Apart from his boxing life, Buatsi is open about his Christian faith, saying it’s helped him go through life. He also recognizes the dangers of boxing and praying helps him to be confident in every match and when he’s safe, he remains grateful.

Additionally, the boxer runs the Joshua Buatsi Foundation based in Ghana. He uses it to create a safe space for boxers to train and offer support to underprivileged orphans and children.

Joshua Buatsi is creating his mark in boxing not just by the types of results he gets but with the way he also carries himself. Should he continue amassing a winning record, it’s only a matter of time before he’s ranked alongside great names like Anthony Joshua.
