Melchie Durmonay’s Background

Melchie Durmonay was born on 17 August 2003 in Mirebalais, Haiti. She was brought up by a single mother and grew up alongside her three brothers. She started playing football in the neighborhood with other boys. 

Through this, she was spotted by AS Mirebalais. The club’s coach Jean-Claude Josaphat helped her get to the junior national team at 10 years old.

Breakthrough

In 2018, Durmonay joined AS Tigresses and played for them for three years. In her first season, she scored 25 goals in nine matches and was named the Best Player Award. She also won the Golden Boot.

Aged 15, she represented Haiti at the U20 FIFA Women’s World Cup. At the tournament, Durmonay was scouted by Reim manager Amandine Miquel

“She was way above the other players. We knew we needed that player.” Miquel told GOAL.com.

However, the club couldn’t sign him because she was underage. Lyon also had an eye on the teenager.

Before Melchie Durmonay joined Reim, she helped her club Tigresses to another final, although they lost.

In 2021, Melchie Durmonay signed for Reims. A month after she joined, she made her debut in the French Women’s League. She scored a couple of goals and finally got her first start against Bordeaux. She made a total of 33 appearances and scored 19 goals. 

In 2023, Melchie Durmonay signed a three-year contract at Lyon. After signing, she said: “It has always been my dream to wear the Olympique Lyon shirt. I know this club can allow me to progress and win trophies.”

International Football

Durmonay joined the national team when she was a teenager. She represented Haiti under 15, 17, and 20. She played in the CONCACAF Women’s Championships at all ages. 

At the 2022 tournament, Durmonay was named the Best Young Player and helped Haiti qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Durmonay has 16 caps and scored eight goals.

Melchie Durmonay has a bright future in front of her. She’s playing for the most successful club in the world, Lyon. There’s no doubt that Durmonay can be one of the best female footballers in the world.
