Dina Asher-Smith’s Early Career

The Brit began running when she was nine months old. She took after her mother, who was a relatively successful runner. At eight, she joined Bees Academy of Blackheath & Bromley Harriers Athletics Club. There she met John Blackie, who’s played a pivotal role in her career.

At around 11, Asher-Smith competed in a cross-country as part of the Kent Young Athletes Leagues. Alongside that, she picked up swimming, netball, and hockey. She also won multiple titles in school.

Asher-Smith won the 200m title at the English Schools Championships. As an under-15, 17 and 20 athlete, she won gold medals at the European Junior Championships.

Two years later, at the European Indoor Championships, the Brit ran the fastest time (7.08 seconds) a teenager has recorded in the 60m. She became the first British woman to win a medal in this event.

Dina Asher-Smith continued breaking records. At the London Anniversary Games, she was the first British woman to run a race under 11 seconds after 10.99 seconds. This came after she broke the British 100m when she clocked 11.02 seconds.

In between the years, Dina Asher-Smith won numerous races. At the World Championships, she won one gold medal. This came in 2019 in Doha, Qatar in the 200m.

In the same event, she won two silver medals in the 100m and 4 by 100m relay. The other medals, silver and bronze, came in London and Eugene.

At 28 years old, Dina Asher-Smith is one of Britain’s most decorated athletes. She still has time to achieve what she hasn’t.
