Brian Lara

Brian Lara has received high praise and is rated alongside other great cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar. He has the highest number of innings by any captain, with 400. He only needed 195 matches to get to 10,000 runs, among other records. He’s made over 20,000 runs and crossed the 10,000 mark in ODIs and test matches.

Clive Llyod

Clive Llyod made his name as a powerful batsman. He captained the West Indies team during one of its most successful periods, lifting the World Cup from 1975 to 1979. Clive became the first player to feature in 100 test matches. In total, he scored over 9000 runs.

Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle is one of West Indies’ biggest players. Many believe that his sixes are some of the best seen in the game. He scored over 15,000 runs and caught over 260 wickets. Gayle went down in history as the first cricketer to score a century in all game formats.

Dwayne Bravo

Dwayne Bravo ranks as one of the best West Indies cricketers ever. He has over 6000 runs and 300 wickets to his name. Dwayne was part of the team that lifted the 2004 Champions Trophy and the Twenty20 2012 and 2016. 

At one time, Dwayne was the highest-wicket taker in the Indian Premier League but has since been surpassed.

Garfield Sobers

Sir Garfield Sobers is one of the earliest West Indies players who joined the team while fighting for its place on the international stage. He was an all-rounder, skills that the team demanded at the time as it differentiated them from the Brits. Sobers left an indelible mark in the game. He was the first batsman to score 6 sixes in an over. He scored over 8,000 runs and took 235 wickets.

Malcolm Marshall

Marshall might not been as tall as other bowlers but he got the job done. He’s thought to be one of the fastest to have played the game and contributed to the success of the West Indies. He scored over 2,700 runs and 533 wickets. By the time he called it quits, Marshall was West Indies’ highest wicket-taker.

Vivian Richards

Richards perfectly modeled the kind of cricket that the West Indies played. An explosive, creative, and artistic batsman, he is one of the best of his generation. He made his test debut in 1974 and One Day International debut in 1975. 

Vivian Richards made over 16,000 runs and caught 290 wickets throughout his career.

Some of his records include: 

  • Ranks second in most runs in a calendar year – 1710
  • Ranks third in the number of runs in a calendar – 7
