Andre Onana
The Cameroonian goalie signed for English club Manchester United and will play for them until 2028. His performances for Ajax in the 2019 Champions League season, in which the Dutch club reached the semi-final, made him stand out among some of the best goalkeepers in Europe.
His ability to play with the ball at his feet and play as an extra defender, as Erik Ten Hag describes, places him alongside other sweeper keepers like Allison and Manuel Neuer.
Alfred Gomis
Gomis plays for Rennes but has been loaned to Italian Series B club Como. He has a 75% save rate, which places him in the 80th percentile, meaning he’s better than 80% of other keepers. He’s the second-choice goalkeeper for his country Senegal and was part of the 2021 African Cup of Nations squad that finished second.

Alexandra Oukidja
The Algerian international has only earned six caps for his country but has been influential for his club Metz and Strasbourg. He’s made 155 and 109 appearances, respectively. In the 2022/23 season, Alexandra Oukidja kept 17 clean sheets after 3119 minutes of football, a total of 36 games.
Denis Onyango
The Ugandan footballer is considered the best African goalkeeper to have played the game. He established himself in the Premier Soccer League in South Africa and has done well. Onyango’s played for Mamelodi Sundowns between 2011 and 2013.
During this time, he made 117 appearances. In 2016, he won the Goalkeeper of the Season award. In 2016, he was named the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year, and in 2021, he won the Goalkeeper of the Season after he kept a record of 17 clean sheets.

Edouard Mendy
Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is the best goalkeeper in Africa. His move to Chelsea from French club Rennes allowed him to show his goalkeeping prowess, and he didn’t waste this chance.
In his first season, he kept nine clean sheets in the Champions League and his first three games at Chelsea. In three years at the club, Mendy kept 31 clean sheets.

Mohammad El Shenawy
El Shenawy is a long-serving member of Al Ahly. He’s been there since 2016 and has made more than 130 appearances. He’s been part of Al Ahly’s biggest moments, winning the Egyptian Premier League six times, the Egyptian Cup, and the Egyptian Super Cup, CAF Champions League, and CAF Super Cup.
As a result of his performances at the club level, he’s managed to receive international call-ups. In 2018, he was voted the match’s best player when they faced Uruguay.
Melvin Adriene
Adriene represented Madagascar at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019. He brought his A-game in fixtures against DR Congo, Nigeria and Tunisia. He’s played for several French sides and is currently under contract at Thonon Avien.

Mouez Hassen
Mouez plays for Club Africain in Tunisia. He represented France at the junior level but switched allegiance to Tunisia. One of his most outstanding qualities is his calmness under pressure. In 2023, he played 19 games and conceded seven goals.
Rais Mbolhi
Rais Mbolhi is remembered for his performances during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He made crucial saves that saw Algeria reach the round of 16. He was influential in the teams’ win in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. His tall stature allows him to dominate areal balls and cover his box.
Yassine Bounou
Yassine Bounou is a Moroccan goalkeeper who joined Saudi club Al Hilal. He was part of the Moroccan team that reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar. Bounou was the first-choice keeper at Sevilla and also played for Atletico Madrid.
He’s won the La Liga African Player of the Year, been part of the La Liga Team of the Season and African Player of the Year 2023, and is the best Moroccan goalkeeper abroad.
