Arm Wrestling

All you need for this sport is your arms. You must have done this with your friends or family to find out who’s stronger. It turns out that arm wrestling is a professional sport that is traced back to ancient Egypt. 

The sport arrived in the United States around the 20th century but was played as a different sport called Indian Arm Wrestling. The sport is played across Africa and operates under the Armwrestling Federation of Africa.

There are two types of the sport:

First is arm wrestling and second is wrist wrestling which happens in two forms: stand-up and sit-down arm wrestling.

Cock Fighting

Another weird professional sport you can take part in is cock fighting. It involves you rearing specific types of roosters and taking them into competition. Cock fighting isn’t just a sport, it’s also a big business. 

In Madagascar, it’s more famous than football. It’s also famous in Kenya among the Luhya community. If you’re looking for a new sport to take part in, consider cock fighting.

Face Slapping

Would you like to be on the receiving end of a slap? If so, you may be interested in face-slapping. It’s one of the most weird professional sports out there and explaining how it’s even a sport is difficult.

Well, two contestants take turns slapping one another with an open hand. The winner is decided by a knockout. The first organized format of the sport took place in Russia and has now spread to the United States and Africa.

Kabaddi

Kabaddi originated in India and has spread throughout the world. Various African countries like Ghana, Egypt, Mauritius and Tanzania participate in the sport. If you’ve never watched kabaddi, you’ll find it to be very weird. 

Seven players on either side take turns in trying to tag the opponent and not get tripped over. It might take you time to understand what’s going on which is why it’s one of the most weird professional sports around.

Racewalking

Racewalking can be traced back to the Victorian era. It’s grown, and its participants compete in the Olympics and major athletic events around the world. What makes this a weird professional sport is the fact that it’s governed by two rules.

First, one of your back toes must always be on the ground until the heel of the other foot touches the ground. The other rule is that your supporting leg must straighten from the point of contact with the ground until your body passes over it. You need to be highly skilled to pull this off. The judges who decide winners examine competitors with the naked eye.

Tug of War

This is one of the most weird professional sports you can try. It involves two sides pulling a thick rope against one another. Besides, the sport can be traced back to ancient Egypt, China, and Greece. It’s a strange way of measuring the strength. 

This became an organized sport in the 19th century and was included in the Olympic Games between 1900 and 1920. However, it’s not been part of the Games since then. Tug of War is practised in Africa by Cameroon, South Africa, Congo, Ghana and Kenya.   

These are some of the weird professional sports you can work towards. Make sure you can keep up with the demands. For example, if you fancy face-slapping be ready to endure the pain, headaches and swelling of your face.
