Spring and the longer days of warmer weather offer a great opportunity to simplify, declutter, and refresh every corner of your home.  The fact is, it’s more peaceful to live in a clutter-free home.

We’ve compiled a handy spring cleaning checklist to make sure you don’t miss anything important.

10 Spring Cleaning Tips for a Peaceful Home

1. Get Essential Spring Cleaning Supplies

Before starting the spring cleaning journey, you’ll need some essential cleaning supplies. Some of these items are baking soda, a wooden broom, white vinegar, liners, microfiber cloths, and dish soap and other cleaning chemicals.

You will also need a lambswool duster, a foam carpet cleaner, an old toothbrush, a melamine foam sponge, a mop and mop bucket, a white cleaning caddy, an old t-shirt, a wooden scrub brush, dryer sheets, among others.

2. Clean in Order

Always clean a room or space from the top down, inside-out. This way, you’re able to keep everything you’ve already cleaned from getting dirty again. For example, dust before you vacuum, wipe the table before you sweep, clean the upper cupboards before the lower, and wash the dishes before you mop the floor.

3. Protect Your Skin

Use rubber gloves while you’re cleaning. This is especially important if you have dry skin. Using rubber gloves even with natural cleaners protects your skin from dust and too much exposure to water. Too much exposure to water alone makes your skin dry and ashy!

4. Dance While You Clean

Sometimes, music makes everything better. Put on some music in the background to get you in the mood for cleaning. It really is more fun to clean when you’re shaking your head to some African rap.

5. Keep Cleaning Supplies At Vantage Points

Keeping cleaning supplies in the kitchen, the laundry room, and the bathrooms of a large house or one with more than 1000 square feet is a good idea. As a result, you will be able to access everything you need for cleaning quickly and easily.

It will also save you time and prevent you from dirtying the rooms again by preventing you from running from room to room in search of cleaning supplies. If you have a tiny house, this may not seem necessary.

6. Clean Carpets and Tile at the Same Time

Cleaning your carpet and tile together is the most effective method of cleaning. You’ll save time and cleaning supplies by doing this. Using a foam carpet cleaner, refresh the carpeting and clean the grout between your tiles.

While getting ready to clean the tiles, spray the tile’s edges with your carpet cleaner, leaving it for 10 minutes. Use an old toothbrush or scrub brush to clean the edges after, and wipe with an old t-shirt.

7. Use Dryer Sheets to Tackle Dust and Residue

During the winter, there is so much dust in the air that it may be invisible. You can use the dryer sheet method to wipe the dust in your home.

Use dryer sheets to dust items like electronics, lampshades, and appliances. The sheets have anti-static properties that will prevent dust from settling back onto the screens or stainless steel.

You can also use dryer sheets to scrub soap scum off your shower doors, clean food residue off pots and pans, clean your blinds, and pick up pet hair from your couch.

8. Spruce Up Your Bedding

We cannot discuss spring cleaning tips without fresh linens. Now is the time to flip your mattress, wash your pillows, and air out your comforters.

The best way to clean your pillows is to wash them in the washing machine with 12 cups of baking soda and soap. Use your dryer’s air cycle to run a load of two tennis balls in socks to fluff and prolong the life of your pillows.

Shake out your comforter and blankets outside before putting them through the dryer’s air cycle with a fabric softener sheet to give them an added boost of freshness. The mattress should be turned over now, which is something you should do every six months.

9. Perform Gutter Maintenance

There is a good probability that the eavestroughs on your home contain some debris. To clear all that slop, either get the ladder out or hire someone. Any water should be able to easily drain from your roof. It shouldn’t back up and seep into your house.

10. Deodorize Your Whole Home

Install fresh air fresheners or essential oil diffusers in each room of your home once you finish the core of your spring cleaning.

Also, you may want to use a natural room spray to freshen up each space after your spring cleaning so that your home has ongoing freshness.

Be wary, though, of family members who may have allergies and act accordingly.

  • Then, clean the stove and oven. You can get some oven cleaner and follow the package directions. If your stove has a glass top, you should use a cleaner made specifically for stovetops.

Bonus Spring Cleaning Tips for Specific Items

Use Lemons To Clean The Microwave

If your microwave has stains and residue buildup, you can use lemons to give it a thorough cleaning. In a bowl, combine one cup of water, one cup of vinegar, and two tablespoons of lemon juice. Place the bowl in the center of an empty microwave and set it on high for two minutes. Let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it down with a damp cloth. Be careful not to burn your hand.

Clean Old Shoes with Baking Soda

You can use baking soda to get rid of the dirt in your front hall closet or on any worn-out, comfortable footwear that you simply can’t bear to part with. Sprinkle baking soda into the problematic shoes and leave them overnight. You only need to shake out the powder and clean the shoes the next morning.

Clean Your Cell Phone with a Disinfectant Wipe

Even though it may not be visible, studies reveal that the bottom of your shoe and the toilet seat are both cleaner than your phone. Remove the phone’s case and use a disinfectant wipe to clean the entire device. Next, repeat the process with the case before replacing it.

After cleaning the phone, perform a digital cleanup too to free up some memory. While you’re at it, digitize any old family photos or priceless mementos, such as the kids’ greatest artwork, using a service like scanmyphotos.com.
