Criteria for Athletes to Enter the Olympics?
Athletes who finish in the top three positions and meet the Olympic qualifying time book their tickets to the Olympics. If an athlete has finished in the top three but doesn’t achieve the qualifying time, he or she can still be legible if they are ranked highly by World Athletics. If they don’t meet this qualifier, the next highest finisher who meets these standards qualifies.

Event Dates and Venue
American track and field athletes will be competing for a place in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The trials will be held at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon between June 21 and 30th.
The same venue was used for the Tokyo Olympic trials and has been used for eight U.S. Olympic trials. Some of the global events that have taken place here include the World Athletics Championships and the USATF Outdoor Championships.

Separate Qualifications for Marathon
USA Track and Field Olympic trials hold separate qualifiers for marathoners. The qualifying window runs from January 1, 2022, to December 5, 2023, and for the full marathon, between January 1, 2023, and December 5, 2023.
Marathoners who’ve met these standards are considered legible to enter the trials:
- The winners of the 2023 and 2022 running circuits.
- 2023 USATF Marathon Championships top six finishers.
- Those who’ve met Olympic standards.
- Any runner who won an individual medal at the 2023 and 2022 World Athletics Championships Marathon.
- Any runner who was part of the 2020 U.S. Olympics team.

Television Coverage
The USA Track and Field Olympic trials usually receive coverage. The trials for the Tokyo Olympics were aired on NBC, NBCSN, and the Olympics Channel then streamed on Peacock.

Qualification for the Trials
Athletes who want to compete in the U.S Track and Field Olympic trials have between January 1, 2023, and February 11, 2024, to meet the standard qualifying time for their event. If open slots remain after entrants are made, USATF allows the other highest-ranked athletes who didn’t qualify to compete.
Afterward, qualified athletes have until February 7, 2024, 11:59 Pacific Time to enter their names in the database. On February 8, 2024, they should declare whether they’ll compete in the event they’ve qualified for. The deadline for entry and declaration closes on February 12, 2024, at 11:59 Pacific Time.
