Vincent Komapny’s Childhood

Kompany was born in Belgium to a Congolese father and a Belgian mother. However, because he was a child to immigrant parents, other kids gave him a tough time. As a result, Vincent Kompany was violent and got expelled from school. His parents’ divorce worsened things, and football became a consolation.

Getting Into Football

Vincent Kompany started his footballing career in Belgium club Anderlecht. He was their standout player and won multiple awards. This sparked interest from clubs around Europe, but he decided to stay at Anderlecht to continue his growth. After three years, from 2003 to 2006, Kompany joined the German club Hamburg.

His time at Hamburg was disrupted by an injury that kept him out for the rest of his first season. Although Kompany played some games, his involvement was limited to 29 games. After two years, Kompany went to England and joined Manchester City.

Kompany at Man City

Kompany’s career took off at Manchester City. He joined in 2008 and made a victorious debut against Westham United. Initially, Kompany signed a four-year deal at City, but after a year, the club gave him a new five-year deal that kept him there until 2014. 

He became influential in the side, and within a year of playing, he was selected as captain in the absence of Carlos Tevez. After Tevez’s departure, Kompany was named the new captain. He enjoyed a successful time at the club, where he played over 250 games and scored 18 goals.

At City, Vincent Kompany won four Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the Community Shield, and the EFL Cup. Individually, the defender won Manchester City Player’s Player of the Season and was enlisted in the Premier League Hall of Fame.

Return to Anderlecht

In 2019, Vincent Kompany rejoined his boyhood club Anderlecht as a player-manager. However, he had a bad start and decided to step down so that he could be a full-time player.

International Career

The defender captained the Belgium national team. He played his first game at the of 17 in 2004. He went on and made 89 appearances for his country. Besides, he represented his country at major tournaments like the FIFA World Cup, the Olympics and the European Championships.

Managerial Career

After his playing days, Vincent Kompany transitioned into management. He started this new phase at Anderlecht. He had a fairly good time. Kompany led them to qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League.

After two years, Kompany was hired by then-EFL Championship side Burnley. He led them back to the Premier League and won the EFL Championship Manager of the Season. He started life as a Premier League manager on a losing note. The team was struggling to keep up with the pace of the top-flight league, and Kompnay knew he has to change things fast.

Vincent Kompany was a great player, and with time, he has had the chance to establish his managerial career.
