23 clubs have lifted the Champions League trophy since its inception. Spanish club Real Madrid is the most successful team in the competition. The tournament is Europe’s most prestigious in club football and every year, fans keep watching.

Real Madrid – 14 Titles
Los Blancos has 14 Champions League trophies in their cabinet. They were the first competition winners in 1956 under the initial name, the European Cup, and won the next four. It took them five years to win the title again.
Real Madrid next lifted the trophy under its new name, the UEFA Champions League in 1997/98. The club replicated that in 2000 and 2002. In mid-2010, Madrid dominated the event, winning three between 2016 and 2018.
The last time they won it was 2022 and they might have a chance to win it again this year.

AC Milan – 7 Titles
AC Milan has lifted the supports League trophy seven times in its history. They’ve struggled to progress to the competition’s latter stages since they last won it in 2010. Its first title came in 1963, which made them the first Italian team to lift the trophy.
Apart from their back-to-back victories in 1989 and 1990, their other titles have been separate wins.

Liverpool – 6 Titles
Liverpool has six titles, but only one is a Champions League trophy. They won the first five during the European Cup era, the first coming in 1977 and the last in 2005.
It wasn’t until 2019 that the Reds won the Champions League under Jurgen Klopp. They came close in 2018, but Real Madrid denied them.

Bayern Munich – 6 Titles
Bayern Munich is the most successful German club in the competition with six titles. The Bavarian giants first became European champions in 1974 and added two more trophies in 1975 and 1976.
They went for another 25 years before winning a fourth, 12 years before winning a fifth, and seven before their last title in 2020. In the 2020 final, Bayern beat Paris Saint Germain by a goal.
Barcelona – 5 Titles
The Champions League trophy last went to the Camp Nou in 2015, which was also the last time Barcelona played in a final. Over the years, they’ve had crushing defeats, for example, in 2017 and 2018, they lost 3-0 to Juventus and Roma, 4-0 to Liverpool in 2019. The other trophies came in 1992, 2006, 2009, & 2011.

Ajax – 4 Titles
Ajax is one of Netherlands’s most successful clubs. They have produced some of the world’s best players and historical figures. From Johann Cruyff, Dennis Bergkamp to Marco van Basten.
That said, with the changing nature of the game, Ajax have now been surpassed by bigger clubs in Europe and this is evident in their performance. The last time they won the accolade was in 1995. 1996 was the last time they appeared in a final.
Manchester United – 3 Titles
The Red Devils don’t have the impact they once had domestically and continentally. They last qualified for the Champions League in 2023/24 but haven’t won since 2008, when Sir Alex Ferguson was the manager.

Inter Milan – 3 Titles
Inter Milan lost the Champions League title to Manchester City in 2023. They were playing at this stage for the first time since 2010 when they lifted the title.
Milan has had mixed fortune in the competition, getting eliminated in the group, round of 16 and quarter-final stages. In 1964 and 1965, they won their first two Champions League trophies.

Two Titles
Five teams have won two Champions League trophies.
Among these. Juventus have come the closest to winning more titles. They were runners-up in 2017. Benfica last contested the title in 1990.
