Football never stops. The European Championships is done and we are now counting down to the return of domestic football. A big part of it is the summer transfer window 2024. Players are moving and clubs are building their next season’s squads. Some of them are free agents, meaning their next club isn’t spending money to buy them because their contracts expired. The transfer deadline is on August 30 and transactions are already happening.

Egyptian player Mohammed Elneny is in the headlines in the summer transfer window 2024. His contract at Arsenal expired on June 2024, bringing an end to his eight-year career at Arsenal. He has suffered several injuries that have limited his game time. He played 161 games for the club and won the FA Cup and the Community Shield.

Michael Antonio
Westham striker Michael Antonio will repeatedly leave the club after nine years. Antonio was one of the team’s most influential players. He has 254 appearances and 67 goals. At 34 years old, it’s unlikely he will attract more premier league teams. Some Major League Soccer (MLS) teams and Saudi Pro League clubs are sizing up offers for him.
Kelechi Iheanacho
The Nigerian is on the list of players who are leaving on a free transfer during this summer transfer window 2024. Leicester City released him at the end of his contract, ending his seven-year stay at the club. Iheanacho was touted to become one of the best Africans in the Premier League, but things haven’t turned out as many hoped.

Joel Matip
The Cameroon-German player left Liverpool after the expiry of his contract. Matip joined the Reds in 2016 and has had a stellar career. He played 201 games, scored 11 goals and won several trophies, including the Premier League and the Champions League. This is Anfield reports that German champions Bayer Leverkusen is planning to sign the defender as they prepare to launch a title defence.
Anthony Martial
After nine seasons at Old Trafford, French player Antony Martial left. A lot of expectations were on his shoulders when he arrived, but he leaves with a chequered record. Ligue 1 sides Marseille and Lyon and Turkish club Besiktas reportedly want to sign him. Martial made 317 appearances and scored 90 goals.

Memphis Depay
Dutch forward Memphis Depay is a free agent after leaving Atletico Madrid. He played 40 games and scored 13. However, injuries have held him back and, the club decided not to renew his contract. Depay played for the Netherlands at the European championships without a club and so far, there aren’t clues as to where he will be next season.
Raphael Varane
Frenchman Raphael Varance exited Manchester United on a free transfer. He joined the club in 2021 from Real Madrid. His time at United was a pale shadow of his time at Real Madrid. Varane also suffered from injuries but also went down the pecking order in the 2023/24 season.

Hakim Ziyech
Moroccan midfielder Ziyech left Chelsea for Galatasaray. He initially joined on a loan deal but has now joined permanently. Hakim joined Chelsea in 2020 and was part of the team that won the Champions League in 2021. However, the team has had several managerial changes and lots of additions and departures.

Dion Rankine
Rankine’s eight-year stay at the club ended this summer with his move away from the Blues. He joined the club at 16 from Cobham. The player is set to join Wigan Athletic.

Chiekhou Kouyate
Chiekhou leaves Nottingham Forest on a free transfer after joining the club in 2022. The Senegalese made 33 appearances at the club. He previously played for Crystal Palace and Westham United. There are no indications where Kouyate will be next season.

Divock Origi
We can’t forget his impact on Liverpool’s win over Barcelona in 2019 when the team won the Champions League. However, things have gone quieter for the ex-Liverpool player. He left the Reds after his contract expired in June 2022 and joined Lille and VFL Wolfsburg on loan before signing for AC Milan. He was loaned to Nottingham Forest, but they won’t retain him and AC Milan won’t either.
Japhet Tanganga
The defender signed for Millwall on a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur. He was loaned to the Championship club and produced solid performances. Tanganga’s performances for Spurs elicited hype in the English media and was seen to be a Premier League prospect.
