Russell Wilson’s Contract With Seattle Seahawks

Russell Wilson had two years left in his contract with the Seattle Seahawks when he got traded in 2022. He wasn’t getting along with his employers and when the Denver Broncos came in for him, he took the deal. 

Make no mistake, Russell was well compensated at Seattle. In fact, he got a four-year extension on his contract in 2019 to keep him in the team until 2023. It was a record-setting deal. 

In what turned out to be his final renewal with Seattle Seahawks, Wilson got a deal worth $140 million, including a $65 million signing bonus. The quarterback was guaranteed $107 million and an annual salary of $35 million. This package meant Russell Wilson got one of the biggest contracts in NFL history.

Despite his enormous contract at Seattle Seahawks, the nine-time pro bowler fell out with his employers. The Denver Broncos came in for him in 2022 and he took the offer. Of course, the Denver Broncos paid big money to get Russell Wilson.

The Broncos inherited the remaining two-year deal he had with Seattle Seahawks. With $51 million left on his former contract, it was split between the two. In the 2022 season, he earned $24 million and $27 million in 2023. 

Russell Wilson’s contract at Denver Broncos makes him the highest-paid player in the team’s history. He signed a five-year deal worth $245 million extension with $161 million in guarantees, the third-highest in NFL history. 

Only Arizona Cardinals’ Kyler Murray ($189.5m) and Cleveland Browns’ Deshaun Watson ($230m) get more guaranteed money. His signing bonus for the Broncos totalled $50 million.
