After six years in the academy, he joined the senior team and played until 2022. He made over 300 appearances, a record for the club. In 2020, the goalkeeper signed a four-and-a-half-year contract deal with SuperSport United and received a lot of praise from the SuperSport Chief executive officer (CEO).

“Ronwen Williams is the face of the club and represents a lot of what we stand for. He is an example that we are giving the young players the opportunities to make it to the top,” SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews said.

At the same time, after signing this new contract, he told GOAL he wouldn’t leave the club for any other local team. He explained that he has never been tempted to leave. In addition, despite reports linking him to other clubs, he had never received external offers, which is why he remained with SuperSport.

SuperSport Farewell

After allowing him to hold talks with Mamelodi Sundowns and letting him go, SuperSport held a special send-off, in which its CEO thanked him for his services.

“Ronwen will always be a part of this club and has entrenched his place in its history books. He was the most-capped and the longest-serving player in the club. In today’s world, it’s hard to find the kind of loyalty he gave us, which is why the 18 years he was here is special,”

‘We are very proud that we could produce a player from the tender age of 12 and enable him to reach his childhood dreams by playing for and captaining his club and country,” Stanley Matthews said.

During his time at SuperSport, Williams won PSL Young Player of the Year in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013, the MTN8 Last Man Standing award in 2017-2018 and PSL Goalkeeper of the Year in the 2018-2019 and 2019-20 seasons.
