Micah Parson’s Contract

The linebacker was one of the last draft picks by the Dallas Cowboys in 2021. Nonetheless, he got a generous offer. He penned a four-year guaranteed contract worth $17 million, plus a sign-on bonus fee of over $10 million. Since he was a first-round pick, Parsons gets a year extension that the Cowboys can choose to exercise after he plays his third season.

Micah Parson’s Salary

The player has huge earning potential, and his valuation goes up for every year he plays well. In his rookie campaign, the Pennsylvania native cashed in $600,000

The following year, he made around $1.4 million. In his third year with the Cowboys, the linebacker’s pay rises to $2.2 million, and about $3 million in his final year.

That said, Parsons is one of the best players in his position, and that comes with a price. The team will be under pressure to keep him on the side which means offering him a bigger and competitive contract.

As of 2023, sources indicate that the Cowboys might give him a five-year deal worth $182.5 million, of which $130 million is guaranteed.

Parsons’ Journey to the NFL

He began his football career at Central Dauphin High School for his first two years before he joined Harrisburg High School. He made 18.5 sacks and 121 tackles. The following year, he made 13.5 sacks and 69 tackles.

First Year at Penn State

Before he graduated from high school, Ohio State University pursued him but later opted out of the deal after a rule violation. Pennsylvania State University gave him a football scholarship.

Although he’d played in the defensive and running back positions, he played as a middle linebacker at Penn State.

By the end of the season, he led the team in the number of tackles despite playing only one of 13 games. He was the first freshman to achieve this feat and finished second in the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

Forfeiting Last Year of College

Parsons decided to forfeit his last college year and make himself available for the NFL draft. He was drafted as a 12th overall first-round pick and played his first game as a defensive end. He showed his adaptability and established himself as a pass rusher. At the end of the season, Parsons was named the Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Micah Parsons is a player who’ll be in demand if he continues to make good performances. This will attract big money from teams that see his value and are willing to invest in a proven pass rusher.
