Mason Greenwood’s Background
Mason Greenwood was born on 1 October 2001 in Bradford, England. He grew up with his sister and parents. He showed interest in football from a young age and played for a local team, Westwood Juniors. It was here that he was spotted by Manchester United scouts who got him into the club’s junior ranks.
Development at Manchester United
Greenwood was the standout player in Manchester United’s academy. His set of skills, movement, and ability to play with both feet impressed many. He gradually rose up the ranks and graduated to Manchester United’s U18s team. While playing for them, Greenwood scored 17 goals.
Promotion to the Senior Team
In 2018, Mason Greenwood was included in Manchester United’s first-team squad for the Champions League. He was given a professional contract in October 2018. At 17 years and 156 days, he became the second youngest player to play for United when he made his debut for the Red Devils in 2019.
He won many people’s hearts with his fierce and competitive nature. His ability to play in multiple positions and being two-legged set him apart from other people. Sexual Assault Case
After making 83 appearances, Mason Greenwood’s career came under threat. In January 2022, an alleged sexual assault video of him emerged on social media. Manchester United suspended him from all footballing activities after he was arrested for investigations.
In February 2023, the charges against him were dropped after witnesses withdrew the claims. United ran its own internal investigation and found that he didn’t commit the alleged offences. The club claimed they received new evidence, hence their decision.
As a result, speculation mounted about his possible return. Manchester United was preparing for his return, but a section of pundits and fans expressed their disappointment. This led to the club going back on their decision to welcome him back. Instead, they announced that he’d be leaving the club.

Mason Greenwood’s Response
After Manchester United announced he’d leave by mutual consent, Greenwood spoke about the incident for the first time. He acknowledged his share of the responsibility and revealed he’s working through things to get on the right track. He also said that he understood the decision taken to leave the club.
“Today’s decision has been part of a collaborative process between Manchester United, my family and me. The best decision for us all, is for me to continue my football career away from Old Trafford, where my presence will not be a distraction for the club.”

International Career
Mason Greenwood has received only one cap for England. That came in September 2020 and was suspended after breaking COVID-19 protocols. According to reports, he might never play for the Three Lions under Gareth Southgate.
