Here’s the list of 5 incredible black women actors who have starred in Superhero roles. 

Halle Berry

Born on 14 August 1966, Halle Berry is an accomplished actress who made her mark in the world of superheroes. She portrayed the iconic character Storm (Ororo Munroe) in the ““X-Men” movie released in 2000” movie released in 2000, Halle Berry made her role as Storm more exciting and interesting.

Lupita Nyong’o made her mark in the superhero genre with her role as Nakia in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film.

In “Black Panther,” directed by Ryan Coogler, Lupita Nyong’o portrays Nakia, a strong-willed and skilled Wakandan spy and member of the Dora Milaje. Nakia’s character is deeply committed to using her skills and resources to help those in need outside of Wakanda, making her a compassionate and fiercely independent hero.

Zoe Saldana

Born on 19 June 1978, Zoe Saldana is a versatile black actress who has left a footprint in the superhero genre. She acted as Gamora in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series.

In “Guardians of the Galaxy” (2014), directed by James Gunn, Zoe Saldana takes on the role of Gamora, a highly skilled assassin and member of the intergalactic Guardians of the Galaxy. 

Javicia Leslie

In 2020, Javicia Leslie stepped into the cape and cowl as Ryan Wilder, a new character who becomes the latest incarnation of Batwoman in The CW’s “Batwoman” series. Playing this role made Leslie the first Black actress to portray Batwoman.

Ryan Wilder, played by Leslie, is a former drug runner who stumbles upon Kate Kane’s Batwoman suit after her disappearance.

Danai Gurira

Born on 14 February 1978, Danai Gurira is a Zimbabwean–American actress who gained prominence in the superhero genre by portraying Okoye in the MCU film “Black Panther” (2018).

In “Black Panther,” Danai Gurira brings the character of Okoye to life. Okoye is a highly skilled warrior, devoted to protecting her nation and its king.

Gurira’s performance as Okoye is commanding and captivating. It showcased Okoye’s unwavering loyalty, expert combat skills, and dedication to her people. As the head of the Dora Milaje, she exudes strength, discipline, and honor. 

Known for her talent, Tessa Thompson is among the incredible black women actors who starred in the superhero role. Thompson first portrayed Valkyrie in “Thor: Ragnarok” (2017). Valkyrie is a fierce and formidable warrior hailing from Asgard.
