The former tennis player is one of the black tennis players to have won the Australian Open. Serena Williams won seven titles during her illustrious career, in which she claimed 23 grand slam titles.

Her first Australian Open came in 2003 after defeating her sister Venus Williams in three sets: 7-6, 3-6, and 6-4.  Two years after her first, she played highly ranked Lindsay Davenport and won in three sets (2-6 6-3 6-0).

Williams didn’t make it to the finals in 2006 but returned in 2007 against former player Maria Sharapova and won her third title. In 2009 and 2010, Williams won back-to-back titles, after which she went on a four-year drought.

She regained the Australian Open title in 2015 against Sharapova and won her last title in 2017 against her sister. Even though she’s retired, Serena is the most successful female player at the tournament.
