Temba Bavuma’s Biography
Bavuma was born on 17 May 1990 in Cape Town. As of 2023, he’s 33 years old. His neighborhood is known for its cricket culture. He began playing professionally for Gauteng in 2008, and his first franchise team was Highveld Lions. He’s also played for the Cape Cobras, the Durban Heat, Northamptonshire, Jozi Stars, and Sunrise Eastern Cape.
Temba Bavuma’s International Debut
Temba Bavuma first played for South Africa in the test series 2014 against the West Indies. He didn’t start that well, as he made a 10 and 15 score. In his next game, his potential showed after he struck half-a-century.
By 2016, Bavuma managed to secure his place in the national team. That said, he’s always put up with criticism of being a slow starter and having a non-consistent performance.
As the captain of the test cricket team, he’s expected to be leading the lines. It was hoped that after the departure of AB De Villiers and Hashim Amla, Bavuma would fit into the big shoes, but so far, he’s not managed to do that.

One Day International (ODI)
Bavuma made his ODI debut in 2016 against Ireland. He batted with Quinton de Kock instead of Hashim Amla. The player scored in his debut and went on to be named the player of the match. He scored a century and became only the second player to do that in their ODI debut for South Africa. Overall, Bavuma made 83 appearances in the ODI.
In 2019, Temba Bavuma made his test debut against India and in 2021, Temba Bavuma was named the captain of the South Africa national team. This made him the first black man to captain the Proteas. His first series as captain was against Pakistan. He led South Africa as captain.

Out of the 56 test matches Temba Bavuma played, he scored 2,997 runs, hit 362 fours and seven sixes. His most recent match was in 2023 against West Indies. Bavuma scored 28 runs from 64 balls. At the ODI, Bavuma played 26 matches, scored 1,150 runs, hit 104 fours and 16 sixes. At Test cricket, he’s scored 635 runs, hit 56 fours and 15 sixes.
