Shericka Jackson’s Early Career
Like many Jamaican athletes, Shericka Jackson began her career in school. Although she played other sports, her athletic ability stood out, and the school’s track & field coach spotted her. She began training under the leadership of Stephen Francis.
In 2012, their partnership began to produce results when Shericka Jackson bagged a silver medal in the 400m race at the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) Games. She competed in age-group competitions: the 2010 Youth Olympics, 2011 World Youth Championships, and 2012 World Junior Championships.

Professional Career
The 2015 World Championships in Beijing, China, was Shericka Jackson’s first major competition. She clinched a bronze medal in the 400m, the same result she posted at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil and the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
Additionally, the sprinter won a gold medal in the 4 by 100m relay in Doha and a gold, silver, and bronze in the 4 by 400m at these competitions.

Switching to 200M and 100M

In 2021, her coach, Stephen Francis, transitioned her to the 200m and 100m sprints. She started off on a high note, winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games in the 100m.
Jackson improved her podium place with a second-place finish at the 2022 World Championships in the 100m and gold in the 200m. This victory made her the first woman to win medals in all events.
In 2023, Jackson continued with her stellar performances at the shorter sprints. In the Diamond League, she upset Sha’Carri Richardson and won the 100m in 10.70 seconds. She also clinched the win in the 200m.
At the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, the Jamaican sprinter dominated the 200m race, finishing at a time of 21.41 seconds. Her time was the second-fastest in history and a championship record.
Shericka Jackson’s performance in 2022 and 2023 have underlined her as one of the upcoming sprinters to watch. She faces stiff competition from the likes of Sha’Carri Richardson, Shaunner-Miller Uibo, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, and Elaine Thompson. That said, Shericka has demonstrated that she’s equal to the task.
