Ons Jabeur’s Background
Ons Jabeur was born on 28 August 1994 in Ksar Hellal, Monastir, Tunisia, to her parents Samira and Ridha. She began playing the sport at the age of three. When she turned four, Jabeur started working with Nabil Mlika, a tennis coach, until she was 13.
There weren’t any tennis courts in her home area, so Jabeur moved to the capital Tunis to train at Lycée Sportif El Menzah. She then moved to France and Belgium to further her training.

Junior Career
Ons Jabuer’s junior tennis career started in 2007. Her debut tournament was Grade 5 Al Fatah ITF Junior, and she won in the doubles. She competed in higher-level tournaments and achieved success in them.
In 2009, Jabeur played her first junior grand slam at the US Open. In 2010, Jabeur played at the junior French Open and lost to Elina Svitolina. She then played at Wimbledon and got to the quarterfinals.
In 2011, the North African tennis star won her only junior grand slam at the French Open. This made her the first Arab woman to achieve this feat. As a result, Jabeur rose to fourth in the junior world ranking.

Senior Career
In 2008, Ons Jabeur turned professional. Her first tournament in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women’s Circuit was in Tunisia. Her first singles victory on tour came in 2010 in Turkey. The player followed this up with a singles and doubles win in Casablanca.
In 2011, the Tunisian played her first Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) event in the Qatar Open after receiving a wildcard entry. She then played at the Dubai Tennis Championship. Her first shot at the major grand slams saw her lose in the qualifying rounds at Wimbledon and the French Open.

In 2014 and 2015, she entered the US and Australian Open but didn’t go past the first round. In 2017, Jabeur played in all the grand slams for the first time in her career. She got to the third round at the French Open and won her first-round match at the US Open against Brienne Minor.
These two performances saw Jabeur get to the top 100 rankings. She didn’t stay long, as she fell off the ranking the following year. However, Jabeur recovered and finished the year at world number 62.
In 2019, Jabuer reached the third round of the U.S. Open after losing in the first round of the other three slams. This pushed her to number 51 in the rankings.
The following year, she bettered her results, having reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. After reaching the third round in the U.S. Open and fourth in the French Open, she climbed to number 31.
In 2022, Jabeur entered new grounds. She reached the final of her first grand slam in Wimbledon but lost to Elena Rybakina. This made her the first Arab and African woman to play in the final at Wimbledon. The Tunisian played in the final of the U.S. Open but lost to Iga Swiatek and became world number 2.
In 2023, Jabeur lost another Wimbledon final. Currently, she’s ranked number 7.
