Caleb Williams’ Career

Caleb Williams began playing football when he was young. Even at that age, his level was above that of his peers. When he was in fifth grade, he played with eighth graders. At this time, he played as the running back and linebacker.

That changed after his team lost while he was watching on the bench. He decided he wanted to play the quarterback position because this way, he’d get the chance to control the game.

His father, who’s been influential in his growth and supported him throughout, was impressed by the fact that at a young age, he wanted to take on such a huge responsibility. Together with two football coaches, they worked round the clock to make this a reality for Caleb.

Before even his freshman year lapsed, Riley announced his departure to the University of Southern Carolina. His plans were thrown in the air but he stayed in touch with Riley to find out if he’d get a spot. Fortunately, Riley wanted him on his team, and when the NCAA transfer portal opened, he transferred to USC in January 2022.

That said, Caleb Williams admits that Oklahoma treated him well and saying goodbye wasn’t easy. “That year was one of my toughest years in or around football because that was my first college. They loved me there.” Williams told GQ Sports.

His time at USC has been successful so far. He won the Heisman Trophy that year, was named the AP College Football Player of the Year Award and made it into the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year.

Draft

If he continues performing well, Caleb Williams will be one of the most sought picks during the draft season. That said, he and his father acknowledge the harsh reality of a first-pick and even prefer that he doesn’t get drafted.

The fact that a first draft lands you in the worst team due to parity means that Caleb Williams’ career can go to waste. His father describes it as a gift and a curse. Due to this, they’re keeping their option open, including a break-in-case-of-emergency and going back to school.

Wherever Caleb Williams goes, he has a vision for himself and will stop at nothing to fulfil it. His future in the game is bright and football fans will love to watch him in the big league but they might have to wait longer if he decides that his draft pick will hold him back.
