Malakai began singing when he was seven. His mother pushed him to do it, as he shared in his introduction at the Britain’s Got Talent competition.

“I started singing at seven – my mum made me join the choir because she is very bossy.”

He’s a member of St. George Cathedral Southwark and the Schola Cantorum of the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School choirs. The school’s director of music and conductor, Scott Price, has nothing but kind words about the youngster.

“Malakai has a unique, wonderfully expressive and flexible voice. He possesses intense musicianship and a real gift for storytelling. It’s always a joy to hear him sing and it has been a real pleasure to help him prepare for this recording.” he told the Evening Standard.

In November 2022, Malaki made his Royal Opera House debut. He performed Alcina by Baroque composer George Frideric Handel and played as Oberto. This performance thrust him into the limelight after it was posted online.

After his first performance, Malakai was invited by Welsh treble singer Aled Jones to perform ‘Walking in the Air’ and ‘O Holy Night’. Like his first performance, this duet went viral. Currently, the video has over 2.5 million views on YouTube.
