Michael Olunga’s Career Journey
Michael Olunga began playing football in high school. His abilities were unmatched, and he quickly caught the eye of Kenyan clubs. At the time, he was also a student at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), where he pursued a degree in engineering.
He received his first professional contract at Liberty Sports Academy. Olunga topped the scoring charts with 32 goals. In 2013, Olunga signed for Tusker FC and scored three goals.
The following season, the tall forward moved to Thika United and netted nine goals in 26 appearances. In 2015, he joined Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia. In 27 starts, Olunga scored 19 goals.
This proved to be his breakthrough season as Swedish giants Djurgadens IF signed him for four years after he underwent a trial with them. At Djurgadens, Olunga played 27 games and scored 12 goals.
After one season, he joined Chinese side Guizhou Zhicheng. During his time here, Olunga went on loan to Spanish team Girona. At the end of his loan spell in 2018, he went back to his parent club and was sold to Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol. He performed exceptionally well here, scoring 58 goals in 72 appearances.
Currently, Olunga plays for the Qatari club Al Duhail. He has 51 goals to his name from 50 appearances.

How Much Does Michael Olunga Earn?
Details of Michael Olunga’s salary whilst playing for Kenyan clubs aren’t in the public domain. Most of the teams in the Kenyan Premier League rarely provide these details.
That said, Gor Mahia, the most decorated club in Kenya, has a wage bill of Ksh 5 million, per its chairman Ambrose Rachier. Its players are said to earn upwards of $1000. Its most valuable players have earned as much as $3000.
When he moved to the Swedish club Djurgadens, details about the deal remain undisclosed. That said, Chinese club Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng reportedly met Djurgaden’s buyout clause of $3.3 million to acquire the striker. Further, it spent $8.4 million with a $3.5 million sign-on fee.

Michael pocketed $84,000 monthly in four years. This was exclusive of match-winning bonuses and other allowances afforded to players.
During his loan spell at Girona, Olunga earned Ksh 3.25 million, meaning his monthly Ksh 13 million.
At Kashiwa Reyol, his monthly pay went up by Ksh 2 million. He earned Ksh 15 million.
Michael Olunga’s current salary at Al Duhail is $37,500 per week, which means his monthly stands at $150,000.
