Israel Adesanya’s Career

Israel Adesanya was born in Nigeria and went to New Zealand for studies. His parents wanted him to get a better education. By this time, he’d been involved in taekwondo which left him with an injury. 

In New Zealand, he wasn’t keen on sports but bullying catapulted his kickboxing. A film ‘Ong Bak’ inspired him. He gave up his studies to fight full-time. 

As an amateur, he got a 32-0 record against his competitors. Soon after, he went to Auckland for Mixed Martial Arts training in kickboxing. 

In kickboxing, Israel Adesanya won the Glory Kickboxing tournament and the Glory Middleweight Contender tournament.

In 2015, he joined MMA. His first fight was against James Griffiths, which he won and then faced John Vake. After that, he took a two-year break and returned in 2015 and got an 8-0 record.

In 2017, he signed a contract with the UFC and is now one of the best in the division. As of 2023, his record stands at  24-2-0.
