Asisat Oshoala’s Biography

Asisat Oshoala was born on 9 October 1994 in Ikorodu Nigeria. She’s one of seven siblings. Her father is a polygamous man with two wives. As of 2023, Asisat is 29 years old. 

Growing up, her parents didn’t allow her to play soccer. Speaking to CNN, Oshoala said that she got into trouble for playing.

“In Africa, they say, ‘Oh, you’re a girl. You’re not supposed to be playing football. You should be at home, helping your mother. They say soccer is for the boys.” Asisat told CNN.

The one person who stood by her was her grandmother. 

“I always got into trouble for playing soccer so I didn’t sleep at home, I didn’t get food at home and wouldn’t be given money. I went to my grandmother’s place.”

Asisat Oshoala studied at Air Force Primary School on Victoria Island. In high school, she went to Aunty Ayo International School.

Asisat Oshoala’s Career

The footballer’s career began in Nigeria at FC Robo. She played for them between 2009 and 2013. She then moved to Rivers Angels and represented the club until 2015, when her big breakthrough came.

Asisat signed for Liverpool Football Club in England. However, she didn’t get much playing time with the Reds. She made nine appearances in her only season at the club and then joined Arsenal Football Club

At the time, former Arsenal manager Pedro Losa described her as a fantastic talent with quick feet and a proven goal scorer. At Arsenal, she played 11 games, scored two goals and won the Women’s FA Cup in 2016. After one season, she left the English League for the Chinese League, where she established herself.

At Dalian Quanjian, she won the golden boot in her first season at the club after scoring 12 goals. She also won the title. Asisat repeated the feat in her second season in China – won the league and golden boot.

In 2019, Spanish giants Barcelona signed her on loan until the end of the season, after which they permanently signed her until 2022. In 2022, she extended her deal until the end of 2024. 

At Barcelona, Oshoala’s become prolific for her goal-scoring. She’s scored 83 goals in 89 appearances. In 2019, she became the first African female football player to score in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final. In 2021, the Nigerian became the first African female footballer to win the Champions League.

In 2023, Oshoala won the title for a second time after Barcelona’s win against VFL Wolfsburg. She’s also won the Spanish League and Copa de La Reina

Asisat Oshoala’s Net Worth

Asisat Oshoala has played for some of the biggest clubs that have professional women’s football clubs. While details of her current salary at Barcelona are a subject of speculation, she reportedly earned $52,000 per month in China. This has contributed to her net worth, estimated to be $3 million
