Tabitha Chawinga’s Football Journey

Tabitha Chawinga started playing football at a young age. However, her parents disapproved of it because they wanted her to focus on academics. However, she continued playing and even took her sister, Temwa, to practise.

She (Tabitha) was punished for her defiance, but because she knew she wouldn’t stop playing, she negotiated with her parents. She said she would stop playing if they stopped beating her, but she kept playing.

This determination led her to DD Sunshine in Lilongwe, Malawi, where she received her first international trial. In 2014, she was allowed to go on trial at the Swedish club Krokom/Dvärsätts IF.
