As citizens, its easier to have some Earth Day activities for kids; you can get creative with new ways to switch up your family commute. For instance, instead of driving to the community park or taking public transportation, you can walk with the kids, skate, or use a scooter.

If you have things to carry, like picnic items, you may opt to ride a bicycle so you can have space. This is one fun way to reduce your carbon footprint, keep your body in shape, and bond as a family. You will have reduced the carbon dioxide in the air. Avoid using plastic bottle as one way of reducing environmental degradation.

2. Make Your Own Paper

Teaching your kids how to make their own paper is a fun way to observe Earth Day. Making their own paper will not just be a family bonding activity but a learning experience that will stay with them forever. It provides a hands-on example of how you can help protect the environment.

Did you know using papers made from cardboard may take up to two months to decompose in a landfill?

Did you know you can create reusable bags from old clothes like t-shirts? Yep! You can craft a shopping cloth bag, thereby cutting down on the use of single-use plastic that can be harmful to nature.

Set aside a  few hours of your day with your kids to make a reusable cloth bag from an old t-shirt for your next shopping trip. The experience will be worth it for them and the earth.

4. Make Compost Manure

How about you roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty for Mother Earth? It can be one of the amazing earth day events. You can start with the pile of old leaves outside your compound by adding a dash of time, maybe some worms, and a healthy splash of moisture.

In no time, you and your kids will have the perfect soil for a garden.

6. Go Earth-Observing!

You get the idea and the mission, don’t you? Earth-observing simply means taking time out with your kids to observe Mother Earth. Greenery, animals, chirping birds, blooming flowers, the roaring ocean, and the beaches are just a few examples of impeccable natural scenery.

Observing wildlife, for example, is a wonderful way for children to practice patience and develop detail-noticing skills. It also helps you record the amazing animals you observe where you live and share those observations with your friends.

7. Recycle Single-Use Plastics

Another way to observe Earth Day activities with your kids is to recycle single-use plastics at home. You can recycle them into flower pots, seed containers, soap dishes, and play toys, among others.

8. Save Water Brushing Your Teeth

Usually, when you brush your teeth, you leave the tap running. This wastes water—a lot of water! The most effective way to know how much water you’re wasting is to do an experiment with your kids. Place a bowl under the running tap while brushing your teeth. Measure the amount of water after and compare it to the amount of water you use while the tap is off when you brush your teeth.

Carrying out this experiment will remind the kids to save water by closing the tap when brushing their teeth and turning it on when they want to rinse their mouth and toothbrush.

Another interesting activity your kids will enjoy is a community clean-up. You can join the community cleanup exercise near you or start a movement in your neighborhood. Then take a walk with the kids as you pick up trash. You can carry a trash bag to dispose of the waste. It will surprise you how cleaner your community will become.

The Bottom Line

Americans celebrated the first Earth Day in 1970. It was a move by Senator Wisconsin. This day is celebrated on April 22 or the day the spring equinox occurs.

In a nutshell, Earth Day activities are an excellent way to teach your kids about taking care of the planet. By introducing your kids to these creative and fun activities, they will learn about environmental issues and develop innovative ways to protect the planet.

Earth Day activities can have a lasting impact on your kids’ attitudes toward the environment. By instilling a sense of responsibility and appreciation for the natural world at a young age, children are more likely to grow up as environmentally conscious adults and take action to protect the planet.

Thus, incorporating Earth Day activities into your family’s activities can have both immediate and long-term benefits for your kids and the environment as a whole.
