10 Innovative Ways To Use Technology In Education

Date:

Through technology, man has developed ways to make life easier in virtually every aspect.  And in the education sector, there’s evidence to show that technology has improved student performance by creating a favorable environment for learning and enhancing the overall teaching and learning process.

In this regard, I’ll discuss ten innovative ideas in technology you can apply to make learning more fun and effective.

  1. Multimedia slideshow presentations

Want to evade the monotonous text-only teaching method? Multimedia slideshows should be your go-to. You can feature multimedia elements like colorful images, short video clips, graphs, animations, and more in your slideshows to make your presentations more interactive and engaging for your students.

  1. Virtual classes

A virtual class is an online remote-learning environment that allows for live interactions between tutors and students, just like in a traditional classroom. It utilizes tools like Zoom, Google Classroom, Visme, A Web Whiteboard, Talking Points, Quizizz, and other features to enhance involvement, collaboration, and flexibility.

Virtual courses can be included in a curriculum in various ways, from supplemental to entirely computerized instruction.

  1. Virtual manipulatives

With the aid of digital manipulatives, students can interact with physical objects to better understand abstract ideas, especially in subjects like mathematics. It improves their problem-solving and reasoning abilities and helps them reflect on their learning.

  1. Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) in Classrooms

Augmented reality has made learning more effective by allowing visual learning and bypassing language barriers. As the cost of AR and VR technology continues to decline, more teachers are incorporating it into their teaching strategies.

Virtual tours are one of the most effective uses of VR in the classroom. For example, students can take a trip to the north pole or space and have real-life experiences that would have been dangerous or inaccessible. That way, the students, especially visual learners, get to see things rather than just read about them.

  1. Gamification

Students learn more effectively while having fun, and according to experts,  gamification is a great way to help learners enhance their learning experience. This approach is applicable in the classroom by linking the pleasurable component with the information and concepts that the students learn.

Growing up, learning to type wasn’t easy, but as I started practicing with Mavis Beacon’s typing games, I picked it up in no time.

  1. 3D printing

3D printing has already found extensive use in the world at large. According to Forbes, 3D printers can produce everything from car parts to artificial organs.

Schools can use 3D printing to make models students can interact with and study. For instance, a medical student will find a 3D model of the human heart more relatable than gazing at an anatomy atlas.

  1. Paperless Textbooks and e-Libraries

One of the innovative ideas in technology is the paperless community. It has thrived in banking and finance and has paved its way into the education sector.

Online resources, e-Journals, and e-magazines are all readily available in e-libraries for research and learning. With a phone or laptop, one can have various textbooks in PDFs and other formats. There are also online learning apps that deal with diverse subjects. For instance, the TeachMe Anatomy app makes it simple to access topics without carrying around bulky anatomy textbooks.

  1. Online schools and courses

Today, people can acquire digital skills and certificates without attending physical classes. From programming to web development, business analytics, and other digital skills, anyone can learn from scratch and get certificates on online courses available on platforms like Udemy, Courser, Alison, Khan Academy, Skillshare, Codecademy, and more.

In addition to digital skills, one can earn a degree from online universities and colleges like The University of the People.

  1. Cloud computing

Cloud computing is one of the innovative ideas in technology the education sector has harnessed. It is the network-based sharing of resources, applications, storage, and information.

With the integration of cloud computing into the educational process, students now have easy access to lesson plans, notes, course curricula, slides, lectures, and materials.

Additionally, cloud computing can reduce IT costs significantly, increase transparency, and foster better collaboration. It can also do away with the need for infrastructure.

  1. Video feedback, surveys, and quizzes

Finally, to improve the teaching and learning experience, surveys can come in handy. After a class, teachers can give short quizzes to assess how much the students understand the subject matter. Students can also give feedback about a lecture, and the suggestions are reviewed and implemented.

The list of creative ways to use technology in education is inexhaustible. However, finding what works for you and your students is your best option.
