Yara Shahidi is an accomplished American actress, model, and activist, born on February 10, 2000, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She gained prominence for her roles in film and television, as well as her activism and advocacy work.

Yara’s acting career took off with her role as Young Olivia Danielson in the 2009 film “Imagine That” directed by Karey Kirkpatrick. The film stars Eddie Murphy as a financial executive named Evan Danielson who discovers that the imaginative ideas of his daughter, Olivia, played by Yara Shahidi, can predict the future performance of stocks. Yara’s portrayal of Olivia showcased her talent and charisma, earning her recognition at a young age.

Following her impressive debut in “Imagine That,” Yara continued to pursue acting and landed notable roles in both film and television. Before getting into the big screen, Yara shot commercials like McDonald’s, Ralph Lauren, Disney, and Target.  

She has also appeared in Salt (2010), The Sun Is Also a Star (2019), Smallfoot (2018), Unthinkable (2010), Butter (2011), Alex Cross (2012), PAW Patrol: The Movie (2021), and Peter Pan (2023). 

However, it was her role as Zoey Johnson in the hit sitcom “Black-ish” that truly propelled her career. “Black-ish” premiered in 2014 and follows the Johnson family as they navigate various social and cultural issues. Yara’s performance as Zoey, the eldest daughter of the Johnson family, earned her critical acclaim and a loyal fan base.

Yara’s exceptional portrayal of Zoey led to a spin-off series titled “Grown-ish,” which premiered in 2018.
