Set a Goal and Campaign Purpose

When creating a marketing campaign, you have to define your goals. Why are you doing this? Sometimes, it can be difficult to define the specific purpose, but you must have one. Is it to promote a product or service, drive leads, generate revenue or increase brand awareness? Once you have achieved this, tie it to a goal.

For example, my goal is to drive leads to products X and Y. The target is to have 100 people subscribe to the product’s newsletter by August 31. The goal is specific (drive leads), measurable (100 new subscribers), attainable (subscribe to a newsletter), relevant (to product X and Y) and timely (by August 31).

Campaign Measuring Techniques

From time to time, you must evaluate your campaign to find out whether it’s working. Depending on the avenues you’re using, you might look at new subscribers, email opening rates, likes, followers, or product pre-orders. If you’re using multiple channels, create a measurable target for each.

Your product or service is tailored for a specific group of consumers, so you should be able to define this fairly quickly. Ensure you address their needs and pain points. You can do this by finding out their interests, what they do, their best platforms, and how the product aligns with their needs.

Build the Right Team

Yours truly has been at the end of a poor marketing campaign because it violated this rule. The project head did not evaluate people’s experience and skills and appointed random people to work on the campaign. It was doomed from the start. When doing a marketing campaign, you must hire the right people with the right capacity and understanding. This can be assigning the project in-house if you have qualified individuals, or hiring an agency.

Set a Campaign Timeline

A marketing campaign can’t run indefinitely; it must have a timeline. Evaluate the scope of the campaign, including the promotional assets you have, your budget, and how often you want to run your advertisement, to decide the timeline. Monitor the Right Metrics

It’s easy to get carried away with a rise in traffic, subscribers, likes and other metrics, without realizing what matters the most. Depending on your goals, whether making sales or increasing revenue, ensure you stick to the key metrics. If your desire is to increase traffic, then a rise will indicate you’ve fulfilled your goal. If it’s revenue, a rise in likes or subscribers isn’t the desired outcome.

Additionally, you must reflect on how you conducted the campaign. For example, did you oversend things you shouldn’t have? What worked well, and what did not work well, and why? Could things have been done differently?
