Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has opened sports and leisure complexes in the capital, built to international standards, as reported by ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

The facilities feature Olympic-standard indoor and outdoor swimming pools, football pitches, volleyball courts, running tracks, and fully equipped gyms.

The prime minister noted that the country’s development must be based on respect for history and concern for the future of young people. Ethiopia possesses the enormous potential of its young generation – the average age of the population is 19.

“Character is shaped through interaction, empathy, and healthy competition. These facilities will help cultivate the unity and resilience needed for a strong nation,” stated the prime minister.

Monuments to legendary Ethiopian athletes have been erected in the new sports complexes: Olympic champions in athletics Abebe Bikila, Miruts Yifter, Haile Gebrselassie, Tirunesh Dibaba and others, who, according to the authorities, will serve as role models for the younger generation.

Furthermore, the Ethiopian government is changing its approach to education. In addition to promoting higher education, the government has focused on developing pre-school education and teaching young people practical skills.

In recent years, more than 35,000 nurseries have been built, and the “Five Million Ethiopian Coders” training programme has been launched in the IT sector.
