Europe is a prime destination for young African footballers. It’s where their dreams come to life, playing for the biggest clubs and the best players in the world. Additionally, it enables them to make good money and improve their lives. Plus, there are a lot of opportunities that come alongside, like working for television companies and getting lucrative endorsement deals.

However, to be selected to play for any European club, you have to be one of the best. In this article, we list the young African footballers in Europe.

Hannibal Mejbri

The French-born Tunisian footballer was born in January 2003. He currently plays for the English club Manchester United. He started his career in Paris FC and then joined Boulogne-Billancourt. 

Mejbri spent a year at Monaco before he joined Manchester United. He made his debut as a 17-year-old, and Mejbri put in excellent performances that won him a Player of the Year award. In 2021, he made his senior debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers

During the 2022/23 season, the young footballer joined Birmingham City on loan. In 2023, he scored his first senior goal against Brighton in the club’s 3-1 loss.

Felix Afena-Gyan

Felix is one of the young African footballers in Europe. Born in 2003, he currently plays for Italian club Cremonese. The Ghanaian started his football career at EurAfrica FC in Accra and later joined the Roma Youth. 

On his debut, Felix Afena-Gyan scored and assisted in the team’s 5-0 victory. The forward scored again in his second game and was fast-tracked to the under-19 side. The youngster was so good that Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho gave him his first start on the senior team against Napoli. 

He scored important goals for the team, including two goals against Genoa. By the end of the season, the Ghanaian played 22 games and signed a new contract with the club that lasts until 2026. However, the newly promoted side, Cremonese, bought him. The youngster has played seven games for Ghana.

Ilaix Moriba

The Guinean is one of the African footballers in Europe. He was born in 2003 and is currently playing for the German club RB Leipzig. Ilaix Moriba is considered one of the best young talents of his generation. 

Moriba started his youth career in Spanish club Espanyol and later joined Barcelona. Here, he was a standout player and showed that by scoring a hat-trick against the U19 Real Madrid squad in 2019. 

The following season, Moriba played regularly for Barcelona B, and his performances earned him a place on the senior team. The midfielder made his La Liga debut against Alaves and scored his first La Liga goal against Osasuna. 

In 2021, the Guinean international made his Champions League debut. The following season, the midfielder signed for German side RB Leipzig and then loaned back to the Spanish side Valencia.

Lamine Camara

The Senegalese footballer joins the list of young African footballers in Europe. He was born in 2004 in Senegal, where he started his football career. He played for Galaxy FA, Casa Sport, and Generation Foot. Camara played for Generation Foot for two years before he joined French side Metz in 2023. His first game for the club was against Bordeaux FC

Pape Diop

Pape was born in Senegal, where he played for Diambars in the Senegal Premier League. In 2022, Pape moved to Belgium after signing for Zulte Waregem. However, due to the lack of a work permit, he waited for one month before he could train and play. In 2023, the midfielder debuted for the Senegalese national team after appearances on the U20 and U23 sides.  

Young African footballers in Europe can become the best players in the world. Joining big clubs comes with a lot of pressure and, at times, derails young players’ careers due to high expectations. Hopefully, the players on this list will handle it.
