Every year, the National Football League receives some of the most talented college football players who become top picks in the draft. Travis Hunter is one of these players. He is highly rated, having won the Heisman Trophy in 2024, and fans are hoping he’ll be one of the best in the league. But who is Travis Hunter?

Who is Travis Hunter?

Travis Hunter was born on May 18, 2003, in West Palm Beach, Florida, but moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, where he honed his football skills. He played as a cornerback and wide receiver for the school, recording high numbers, such as 49 receptions, 12 touchdowns, 51 tackles, and 137 passes.

He won the MaxPreps Georgia Player of the Year award and set a single-season record in receptions, receiving touchdowns and yards. By the end of his career, Hunter broke Georgia’s record in career receiving touchdowns by 48. In 2022, he played in the Polynesian Bowl and won the Offensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors.

College Career

In 2022, Travis Hunter joined Jackson State University, becoming the first five-star recruit to sign for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). He recorded amazing numbers, including 18 receptions and four touchdowns in offence and 19 tackles, 8 pass breakups, 2 interceptions and 1 fumble on defence.

In 2023, Hunter moved to the University of Colorado Boulder and made an impact. Offensively, he made 57 receptions and 5 touchdowns, and defensively made 30 tackles and three interceptions. He earned Consensus All-American honors and the Paul Hornung Award for the nation’s most versatile player.

In 2024, Hunter set a record-breaking season, making 96 receptions, 15 touchdowns, 36 tackles and four interceptions. As a result of his performance, he became the first player in college football history to win the Chuck Bednarik Award (top defensive player) and the Fred Biletnikoff Award. In 2024, Hunter won the Heisman Trophy.

In 2025, the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Hunter as a first-round, second pick.
