Along with that, Salah is now a two-time Premier League winner with the Reds and a Champions League winner. However, despite five nominations for the Ballon d’Or, the Egyptian is yet to win the highest individual honor in the game. These Mo Salah stats demonstrate he’s eligible to win the Ballon d’Or.

Why Has Mo Salah Not Won the Ballon d’Or?

Despite having such outstanding facts, Mo Salah is yet to win the Ballon d’Or. Earlier this year, English pundit Jamie Carragher suggested he has to play in a major international tournament to win the award, an opinion that ignited outrage, particularly across Africa, about dismissing Africa’s biggest tournament, the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This is something that’s baffled many, including former professionals, including Francesco Totti, who said he was one of the best players even at his time in Roma.

“Salah is one of the ten best players in the world, I don’t understand why he has never won the Ballon d’Or. If I were the president of a club, I would pay more than 200 million euros for him. I have a great relationship with Mohamed. He is an exceptional guy, humble, nice and always willing,” he commented.

“Salah had a great season with Roma, and I knew that, if he went to Liverpool, he would become an even stronger player. He had a very private life. He trained and went home to his wife.”

This season, 2024/25, Salah and Liverpool were knocked out in the Champions League, a big blow to his Ballon d’Or hopes.

However, he is also competing against worthy rivals such as Harry Kane, Ousmane Dembele, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and more. So, why do you think Mo Salah hasn’t won the Ballon d’Or, and should he win it?

Conclusion

Mo Salah is one of Africa’s best players in the Premier League. His Liverpool career has placed in among the best players to ever feature in the competition. His statistics, as stated above, demonstrate he’s deserving of this award, but despite his five nominations, Salah is yet to get his hands on this trophy.
