“The charges follow an investigation by detectives, which commenced in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape,” the force said.
“The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorized the prosecution of Thomas Partey for multiple counts of rape after carefully reviewing a comprehensive file of evidence,” added Jaswant Narwal, the chief crown prosecutor for CPS London North.
The charges involve three women. Partey is accused of two counts of rape relating to one woman, three counts of rape relating to a second woman and one count of sexual assault linked to a third woman.
Hours after the charges were made public on Friday, 4th July, 2025, Partey, through his lawyer Jenny Wiltshire of Hickman and Rose, denied the allegations and stated he is looking forward to clearing his name.
“Thomas Partey denies all charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and the prosecution throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, my client is unable to provide further comments.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal Football Club and its manager, Mikel Arteta, were accused of “protecting” Partey over the years, as it was aware of the investigations. In its statement, the club’s spokesman highlighted that Partey is no longer an employee but couldn’t comment as the proceedings are ongoing.
