CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025

Group A

The host nation, Morocco, is in group A and will face Zambia, Comoros, and Mali. They will be expected to come out of the group, with Zambia being their toughest test. Mali is a strong contender, and Comoros is a surprise package.

Head coach Walid Regragui stated that each opponent is worthy and thorough preparations have to be made ahead of the event.

“We’re facing Mali, one of the strongest football nations in Africa, Zambia, a team that’s always tough to handle, and Comoros, the surprise package,” he told Morocco World News.

“We are hoping to make one of the best AFCONs in history, and it will be – especially if we win it,” Regragui said.

West African giants Nigeria will lock horns against Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda. North African team Tunisia was eliminated in the group stage at the 2023 AFCON, an underwhelming performance compared to 2021 when they finished in the quarterfinals. Apart from that, the East African clash between Tanzania and Uganda is one to look forward to. Nigeria will be expected to top the group, but upsets can happen.

Former champions Senegal will go into the tournament with a new coach after parting ways with Aliou Cisse. Nonetheless, they have a relatively comfortable group as they will face Benin, Botswana and DR Congo.

Algeria failed to live up to expectations in 2023 after group-stage elimination. They face tricky opponents in Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, and Sudan. Sudan prevented Ghana from qualifying for the finals, and Equatorial Guinea played them in the group stage, so they might have an idea of how they play. Despite Algeria’s shortcomings, they are still expected to qualify past the group stages.
