In a large saucepan, put the spices: the cinnamon sticks, mauby bark, cloves, aniseed, water and the orange peel.
On low to medium heat, let the pot to a boil for 15 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the stove, cover and leave it to sleep overnight.
The following day, strain the concentrated mauby into a jug or bottle.
Pour one cup of concentrated mauby into another jug or pitcher, add water into the jug (start with 8 cups and adjust, adding more water if needed. At the same time sweeten until you strike a balance in taste that works for you.
