Rema’s song ‘Calm Down’ featuring Selena Gomez in its remix set a new record for becoming the most streamed African song on Spotify with over 1 billion streams. The two released this version on 24 January 2023 and it has been making waves since.
Apart from its high rating on Spotify, it also ranked third on the Billboard Hot 100, the highest position for an African contemporary song since 1968. Further, the song was on the Billboard Hot 100 for 52 weeks and the RIAA gave it a platinum certification.

Love Nwantiti – 834 Million
Nigerian singer Chukwuka Ekweani popularly known as CKay has the second most streamed song on Spotify. His hit Love Nwantiti has accumulated over 750 million streams on the platform. He released this song in 2019 and remade versions of it contributed to its success.
It went viral on TikTok and others used it without his knowledge. Nonetheless, he now gets credit for it and has since released up to six versions. Its remix featuring Joey and Kuami Eugene is the third most streamed African song on Spotify with more than 550 million.
